For the second year on a row, WOW! in Columbus is proud to sponsor the “20 Outstanding Women you Should Know” event in Central Ohio. The program is designed with one simple thought in mind: to celebrate ordinary women who do extraordinary things. The event received hundreds of nominations for inspiring women in Central Ohio who selflessly contribute so much of their time and energy to our local community.
On Thursday, February 17th WOW! Columbus was very proud to have Chief Marketing Officer Cathy Kuo present on behalf of our company. Cathy representing us well for the second year in a row. I wanted to share a portion of Cathy’s presentation as she did a great job tying in WOW!’s Core Values with the 20 Outstanding Women and what makes them such a vital part of our community.
“All of us at WOW! Internet, Cable and Phone are honored to be a part of this extraordinary event for the 2nd year in a row. It’s wonderful for us to be able to support the community just as you have helped us to thrive as a local business here in Columbus.
I like to think, though, that we have a deeper, emotional connection to this very special event. And that’s because the values that we hold dear at WOW! are exactly what this 20 Outstanding Women You Should Know event honors – respect, integrity, accountability and servanthood. All of these women being recognized tonight are fantastic models of those values. In a moment, you’ll hear about why these next five women are so deserving of this award. But I’d like to take a few moments to tell you why all of us at WOW! are so touched by their contributions and gifts.
Now at WOW!, in addition to our values, we have what we call “Our Way of Doing Things”. That it’s not about what we do, but how we do it. And for us the how is to lead with courage, serve with heart and to celebrate with grace.
The power of women to have such a positive impact on their families, their community and the world at large is another reason why those of us at WOW! feel such a connection to this event. At WOW!, we strive to build a culture where the talents of women are honored and recognized alongside our wonderful male colleagues on an equal basis. Our culture celebrates the same things as 20 Outstanding Women You Should Know – courage, heart and grace. Thank you to all of tonight’s honorees for being such wonderful role models. We’re truly grateful to all of you for your contributions and inspiring stories.”
One of the Award recipients that touched my heart was Lori Gaitten. At WOW! Columbus, we are involved with the Red Cross as we host four Blood Drives per year. Employees from other companies in our office park also come to our office to donate blood. Lori works with the Red Cross and sets up Blood Drives for companies like WOW!.
During one of Lori’s events, she met Darby. Lori learned that Darby was very sick with a Kidney Disease and severely needed a kidney transplant. She also discovered that she had the same blood type as Darby and quickly offered one her own kidneys, without a second thought. It was obvious that Darby’s life has since been transformed by Lori’s selflessness – and so has Lori’s. Isn’t that incredible! Can you imagine giving so much to someone you had just met?
At WOW! we live and work guided by our four Core Values: Respect, Integrity, Accountability and Servanthood. Perhaps Lori Gaitten is the ultimate example of Servanthood for all of us to follow. At WOW!, we strive to embody the same spirit that Lori displayed and pass that on to our customers on a daily basis. I see it in our WOW! employees representing our belief “I am WOW!” everyday as they work to create special moments for our Customers that differentiate us from our Competitors.
